New at the Garden Center!

Spring is here! For weeks new plant material has been arriving and we are getting geared up for another great season. What better way to get into the season than to visit Winterberry Gardens? Our greenhouse is full of pansies and perennials just waiting to be planted. Pottery and statuary will be arriving shortly and our tree and shrub yard is filling up daily. With all that is going on, we are also happy to announce some new additions to the Garden Center this year.

Get your Garden Ready for Summer!

With our most recent March snowstorm, thinking about our spring and summer gardens might not be the most important project on our minds. However, snowy, cold, late winter days are perfect times to start planning for your best garden ever. You can start getting your garden ready today!

It starts with creating your garden plan. I like doing mine on graph paper so as to plan my garden to scale.

Next, it’s time to order seeds and get ready to start them indoors or make a list of the number of plants you will need per your garden plan. Once the weather breaks, it’s time to clean the garden of any debris that accumulated during winter. That’s exactly where garden pests like to hang out. As soon as the garden can be worked, start tilling the soil, while adding a generous amount of compost just before you till. All plants love and benefit from a good dose of compost every year.
