My name is Christopher Meade and I am a greenhouse grower here at Winterberry Gardens. I am a certified Master Gardener, Accredited Nursery Professional and I have a degree in Horticulture.
This season at Winterberry, we’ve been utilizing flood tables (Ebb and Flow) that have the capability to send water to many plants all at the same time at any given notice for as long as you’d like. The flood tables were installed at the beginning of this season inside two of our three growing houses with the third to be completed by the end of this current season.
These tables aid in our ongoing water conservation efforts here at Winterberry. Since the tables work on a closed system, the excess flowing water returns to our holding tanks and reenters the system. These flood tables are a great tool to have at hand when nurturing large numbers of plants.
We have also been growing some fresh produce over the last few months. We have successfully grown and harvested lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers and a few different herbs such as, cilantro, basil, and dill. It’s tough to argue with your taste buds when it comes to freshness and these crops are carefully harvested at peak performance for maximum quality.
Crops can even be harvested earlier in some cases for a sweeter taste. These plants grow much faster compared to growing in soil and or field grown. They grow so fast insects don’t even have time to locate them.
We are only just beginning our hydroponics growing but we hope to develop this project into something much more soon.
